Moving On

Once again it's time for my kindergarten students to move on. Today I assigned the special parts to the graduates for their big ceremony (which is now just 7 days away!!). Every year it is the same: I'm ready for this, but I'm not! I'm very ready for a break, yes! I'm ready to sleep in and and sip coffee on the porch. And I'm ready to come away from the classroom and process the things I've learned as a teacher this year. But, quite literally, I'm not ready. No matter how much planning I do in advance, and no matter how much I try to keep one step ahead of the game, I always find that there is never enough time these last few days to do and be and say all the things you want to, to your students and their families.

  1. It is bittersweet to see our school "family" move on, isn't it?....You are so proud of the strides that you helped them make and now it seems that they won't "need" us anymore, sniff, sniff...I mentor a Pre-K teacher and she is a puddle right now thinking about her kids leaving..By first grade, to be honest, there are a couple who I'm not too broken up about-ha!

  2. Tricia you obviousley have so much invested in your students and in your job ... what a refreshing thing to hear this late in the school year when most teachers are pulling their hair out counting down to the coffee/porch sipping days just ahead. (Myself included). I'm sure your kindergarteners will miss you just as much as you'll miss them, and somehow there's always JUST enough time to do what needs to be done. Congrats on another year!

  3. I am at the other end of the spectrum...When mine leave, they really leave! Although in today's world of emails and texts, they are never really far away! Next week will be my kleenex week...I'll be at my old school's graduation on Monday (I was a senior classroom teacher until January) and my new school's graduation on Tuesday! Looking at the picture of your little darlings reminds me of my own two when they went to an Episcopal Day School. I love uniforms and obviously it is not producing cookie-cutter kids!!...Looking at that picture with all the different shirt sleeve lengths and foot wear, all the smiles or smirks, all the hair styles, the waves, the body positions...they are all such amazing individuals!!!
